25 Extremely Upsetting Reactions To Chris Brown At The Grammys
This entire thing makes me physically sick. Internalized misogyny at its absolute worst.
25 women declaring that they’d let and/or want Chris Brown to beat them up. First of all, if you want someone to hit you, that suggests that it’s consensual, and therefore, IT IS NOT AT ALL WHAT HAPPENED THREE YEARS AGO WHEN HE ASSAULTED RIHANNA.
Second of all, no. Just. No. How can anyone in their right mind say “I don’t know why Rihanna complained, Chris Brown could beat me anytime he wanted to”?! How can this unbelievably vicious and deep-rooted hatred of women and acceptance of patriarchal violence become SO severe that some of us are actually saying we’d let a man beat us up because he’s ‘sexy’ or successful?
And finally, HOW do people have the heart to put messaging like this out into the public sphere where survivors of abuse can read it and have their entire horrific experience delegitimized?! HOW?
I quit. I just can’t. I can’t.
Thank you to the Grammys for sending the message that domestic violence isn’t a big deal and that, actually, beating women is totally fine. We’ll even give you an award. Fuck.
